Southern Right Whales off Hermanus, South Africa

Absence in South Africa for rather more than three weeks has made for an unusually long gap in blog posts: that, and an occasional malfunction in the Blogger software which, though reported, brings no help.

After arriving in Cape Town, spending a night there and then heading for Hermanus, we had the good luck to fly out over Walker Bay in Evan Austin's Cessna to see Southern Right Whales.

These whales, almost driven to extinction,  have been protected since 1937.

I have just come across this fragment of what was meant to be a much longer post, but thought I would post it anyway.
